Description
We want to tell you a story. It’s a story about solidarity and how people come together to support communities in need. And how you can contribute too.
This story is about a high school in Warsaw, Poland, called Bednarska. Established in 1989, it quickly stood out from other schools rooted in Soviet principles, becoming famous for promoting freedom of expression, tolerance, and individually tailored curriculums.
Faced with the influx of Ukrainian refugees in March 2022, the school decided to act. Building upon its existing programme, a dedicated class for 20 Ukrainian students run by hired refugee Ukrainian teachers was swiftly opened. The class became oversubscribed within days, with over 100 children on the waiting list, this number increasing every day.
As a global company, the news from Ukraine has deeply affected us. The story of this school is one of hope and is even closer to our hearts as two of our colleagues have been actively involved in supporting them. Our colleague Anna Kobylinska, Data Science Director, is one of their alumni, while Anna Sementsova, Data Scientist, has close ties with Ukraine.

To support the school and contribute in an impactful way, MICHELIN Connected Fleet has donated £20K to cover the salary of a Ukrainian teacher, also a refugee, that will allow the school to open one more class of 25 students for a whole year.
We would also like to invite all MICHELIN Connected Fleet employees to join this fundraising. If you’d like to contribute, we have opened a fundraising platform. The money collected on this platform will go straight to the Polish school and will allow them to provide food, psychological help and laptops* to the refugee children. The school also organises one-week camping trips for students that can help them get back to some sort of “normality”.
*Every £25 secures one psychological consultation for children who are in need of additional support.
*Collecting £2400 would ensure children in need have access to weekly consultations over 3 months.
*Every £300 allows us to purchase a laptop which would be offered to students on loan and allow them to complete the schoolwork and keep in touch with their families. We hope to be able to dedicate £6000 for 20 laptops.
*The school would love to be able to offer children summer holiday camp. £350 would pay for 10 days activity camp placement for one child. £8,750 would ensure all children have a chance to participate.
Join Anna Kobylinska and Anna Sementsova in supporting this heart-warming initiative!
