Description
Dear British, American, Canadian colleagues, and all people of good will,
Over the last few days, thousands of Ukrainian people have lost homes, all their life's achievements, and often their loved ones. Brutal aggression has pushed massive waves of refugees out of their country into harsh weather conditions, seeking shelter and open hearts in Poland.
We are a group of families, neighbors, who live in two small villages near Krakow in Poland. We took immediate action to assist the refugees from Ukraine. We opened our homes to host them as they are like us. They are mothers, taking care of tiny babies, small children: little girls, boys, teenagers, as well as their elders, grandmothers, and grandfathers. We are still sharing information about these needs across our neighbors to convince them that all we can do at the moment is to be human.
The past seven days after the war started, we have prepared and provided rooms in our homes for over 80 people. Some of them need just a temporary rest, other ones want to stay for a longer time, and even start a new life here in Poland, as there, in Ukraine, there is nothing to return.
We plan to support these people, but our capabilities are limited. We have used our cars and provided other forms of transport from the Ukrainian border to Krakow.
We have also set up a community space, where refugees:
· can meet up
· get some mental assistance,
· and crucial information on how to rebuild their life.
At that space, we also store all charity donations received from local society (blankets, diapers, hygiene items, clothes).
We gather and pass information about job opportunities in local businesses. We want them to get a bit of self-confidence and trust in a better tomorrow. We have started to organize sports games and other activities for children to break the monotony of these sad days.
We need to pay for the additional rooms we plan to rent from local B&Bs. Some local guesthouse owners offered rooms and resigned from payments, but we need to cover the cost of the media (heating, electric power, and water/wastewater).
Please join us and help us in this effort to provide continuous support for the Ukrainian people in this tragic time. Together we can relieve the pain of war and restore hope.
Every donation means a lot and makes a tremendous change in the lives of victims of this war.
Your aid will enable us to:
· cover the housing costs
· immediate assistance for those that will come in the next days (food, clothes)
· medical and mental care
· pay for the childcare and free time activities for the kids
· refurbish the community space
Please share this link to the action as widely as you can. I will be adding here photos to document our progress.
Thank you so much!
