Family History

Ms. Marta is a single woman who has been chronically ill since her youth. In addition, she has not been able to get out of bed for several years due to severe osteoporosis. The woman cannot walk. Any major movement can result in broken bones. The only place she spends time away from home is a hospital, where she is taken by ambulance. Because of her poor health, Ms. Marta is forced to rely on the help of others. The communal apartment where Ms. Marta lives at is modest and not fully equipped. The woman, along with the help of friends, tries to keep it tidy. It is also problematic to prepare meals on a small table when there is no stove on which to prepare hot or reheated meals. Having said that, despite her difficult financial and living situation, the woman's strength for life comes from her friends, without whom she would be on her own. 

Daily Life

Every day for Ms. Marta looks the same. In the morning, her friend Marek, who is returning from a night shift at work, comes to see her. He prepares breakfast, changes and cleans the catheter, and helps with basic hygiene. Then the woman is left alone with her beloved dog, who keeps her company. There is time to play and cuddle and stroke the well-liked pet. During the day, Ms. Martha mainly watches TV, as, due to the fact that she cannot walk, she has no other ways to spend her time. She also occasionally reads books or solves crossword puzzles. At noon, but only on weekdays, a woman's lunch is brought to her from social assistance. Frequently it is already cold. In the afternoon, Ms. Marta is visited by her friend Ms. Malgorzata. She comes to help or simply to talk. In the evening, Mr. Marek comes again for a conversation, and he also helps with the evening toilet. It is not easy for Ms. Marta. The sum of her income is 1515 PLN. After deducting the cost of housing and medical expenses of 1368 PLN, she has 147 PLN left for living. This is enough to survive very modestly for another month. However, despite the difficult situation, loneliness and lack of exercise, Ms. Marta does not lose her cheerfulness. With a smile, she talks about her dog, friends who keep her company and the little things that make her happy.

Three key needs of the Family

1. Electric stove with oven 

Currently, Ms. Marta does not have a stove in her apartment, making it necessary for her friends to bring her meals. Her own stove would make it much easier for them to help her on a daily basis. It would be possible to cook or reheat meals on the spot. 

2. Adult Diapers

Ms. Marta is a person who lies down all the time. She has a lot of trouble moving around the apartment. The woman would like to have an adequate supply of M-size Velcro diapers. It would make her ordinary daily life much easier. She would be able to feel definitely more comfortable, and her living conditions would be more hygienic.
