Kim jesteśmy?

Jesteśmy organizacją pozarządową o nazwie WAGEGO, co oznacza „społeczność” lub „pomaganie sobie nawzajem” w języku Abasuba. Wagego zostało założone w 2012 roku i działa na wyspie Mfangano w kenijskiej części jeziora Victoria. Naszym głównym dyrektorem wykonawczym jest David Agagwa - obywatel wyspy, który wybrał ścieżkę edukacji, aby móc zwrócić dobro swojej społeczności, ponieważ od dzieciństwa zauważał jej problemy.

Who are we?

We are an NGO organisation called WAGEGO which means "community" or helping each other" in Abasuba language. Wagego was founded in 2012 and it operates on Mfangano Island on the Kenyan part of Lake Victoria. Our main executive director is David Agagwa - a citizen of the Island that chose the path of education to be able to give back to his community,because he could notice it's problems since his childhood.

Jak działamy?

Naszą misją jest umożliwianie spełnienia marzeń tym, którzy zmagają się z codziennym życiem. Koncentrujemy się na zapewnieniu dostępu do podstawowej edukacji, opieki zdrowotnej i wzmocnienia ekonomicznego najbardziej zagrożonym w naszej społeczności: osieroconym i owdowiałym przez HIV / AIDS. Niezwykle wysoki odsetek (30%) populacji wyspy jest zarażony tymi chorobami. Przy średnim dochodzie w wysokości 1-5 USD dziennie niezwykle trudno sobie z tym poradzić.

Pieniądze na czesne za 21 dzieci, którymi się opiekujemy, pochodzą głównie od sponsorów. Resztę płacimy z własnych kieszeni. Uzyskujemy również pomoc od Przyjaciela Wagego, organizacji zatytułowanej „Kolory ze świata” z siedzibą w Norwegii. Używają rysunków dzieci do znakowania przedmiotów, takich jak koszule i kubki. Pieniądze, które otrzymują ze sprzedaży, są wykorzystywane na zatrudnienie dodatkowego personelu dydaktycznego w lokalnej szkole.

What do we do?

Our mission is unlocking dreams for the ones who struggle in their everyday life. We are focusing on providing the access to basic education, health care and economical empowerment to the most vulnerable in our community: the orphaned and widowed by HIV/AIDS. An extraordinarily high percentage (30%) of the island’s population is infected by those diseases. With the average income between 1-5 USD per day it is extremely difficult to deal with.

The money for the school fees of the 21 children that we take care of comes mostly from sponsors. The rest we pay from our own pockets. We also get some help from Friend of Wagego which is an organisation calle "Colors from the world" based in Norway. They use children's drawings to brand items like shirts and cups. The money they get from the sell is being used to hire extra support teaching staff in the local school.

Na co zbieramy fundusze?

Od 2016 r. Udało nam się zbudować strukturę obiektu, zdobyć meble i kilka komputerów, ale jest jeszcze wiele do zrobienia, aby dzieci mogły uczyć się w komfortowym otoczeniu. Aby usprawnić nasze cotygodniowe i wakacyjne spotkania, nadal musimy zapewnić:

pomieszczenia sanitarne- budowa tradycyjnych toalet ze zbiornikiem na wodę pompowaną ze źródła wody w pobliżu naszego Centrum Edukacyjnego

doprowanienie prądu - który zostanie podłączony do linii elektrycznej kilkaset metrów od Centrum Edukacyjnego

wykończenie budynku -takie jak szyby w oknach i malowanie

Wszystkie pieniądze, które gromadzimy, są przekazywane bezpośrednio na cele projektu, ponieważ naprawdę chcemy jak najszybciej móc w pełni korzystać z naszego Centrum Edukacyjnego. Nasza społeczność pragnie się uczyć i doskonalić, a powyższe potrzeby są wymagane do realizacji naszej misji.

What are we fundraising for?

Since 2016 we managed to build the facility structure and get the furniture and few computers but there is still a lot to do so that children could learn in a comfortable environment. To make our weekly and holiday meetings more efficient we still need to provide:

• sanitation - build traditional restrooms with a tank for water pumped from the water source near our Educational Center

• electricity for lightening purposes that will be connected with an electricity line few hundred meters from the Educational Center

• fittings of the building as glass in the windows and painting

All the money that we fundraise goes straight to the project as we really want to be able to use our Educational Center fully as soon as possible. Our community is likely to learn and improve and those needs above are required to actualize our mission.

We want it to become more colorful and accessible for all the children that want to grow in knowledge and experiences.

Wierzymy, że każde dziecko zasługuje na równe możliwości edukacji i bezpieczną przestrzeń przygotowaną do całościowego rozwoju. Dzięki naszym działaniom chcemy budować ich pewność siebie i zapewnić, że niezależnie od niesprzyjających warunków możliwe jest spełnienie ich marzeń!

We believe each child deserves equal possibilities of education and safe space prepared for holistic development. With our actions we want to build their self-confidence and assure them that regardless of unfavorable conditions it is possible to make their dreams come true!
